17 May 2001 - Ottawa, ON, Canada Concert Review |

They just keep on doing it!!
It has been 8 long years since Bon Jovi's last visit to Ottawa in 1993. They were way overdue and they didn't dissapoint the near sell-out crowd of almost 15,000.
I have to admit that the guys definitely have a talent for entertaining. They started the show with tour opener One Wild Night which had everyone out of their seats. I was quite pleased with the Ottawa fan reaction as I had been dissapointed with crowd reaction to previous concerts (ie: AC/DC, Aerosmith -when compared to other cities such as Montreal.)
I had seen Bon Jovi 6 months earlier in Montreal. The Ottawa show was incredible (as always), but I fear that nothing will ever top that "religious" experience at the Molson Centre.
They tore through their set list with so much energy and enthusiasm. They also knew how to slow things down when needed. As they played a soulful rendition of Bed of Roses Jon went down and danced with a fan, who then surprised him by snapping a picture as soon as they were finished dancing.
Highlights for me included the huge sing-along of I'll Be There For You, It's My Life, classic Livin' On A Prayer, and a surprising response to Lay Your Hands On Me. Their rendition of I Can't Help Falling In Love with You was also a special treat.
My only complaint if any was the same as "OttawaReviewer". Why can't they finish a concert with one of their own songs? Granted it's hard to find a song that will get people out of their seats like Twist and Shout...but Tequila??
What amazes me is how they can continually put on unreal shows. They just keep on topping themselves time after time.
I look forward to seeing them tonight (and July in Toronto and Montreal)....except for tonight's show I will drink less so that I can remember more :)
(does anyone have a selist? I can remember the songs, but not in any coherent order hehe)
NEXT STOP: Quebec City, Quebec
