Well yeah obviously....

My point was that there was so very little used from the second Richie interview, especially in comparison to the others that there must be lots left out.

Right but Bobby played on I Get A Rush originally. That's not as apt a comparison. Jon, the solo artist that recorded the song originally, finishing the song he did alone (albeit releasing it as a band thing) I don't think is the same.

I watched it all on Friday and to be fair, will probably watch it again but do an episode a day or something this time around.

I very much enjoyed it. A lot that I felt they missed (Crossroads, These Days, GH, Burning Bridges etc) and then I was also surprised that Bobby or Lorenza didn't do anything for this. No mention of why Bobby stopped (even though we think we know) but there were a few people I'd have liked to have heard from.

I thought the Richie v Shanks thing was very interesting. We all know that Shanks has wormed his way in but I didn't realize it was that bad. Shanks come across awful, in my opinion. I don't think during that whole saga any of them have come out looking great, at all.

Jon's vocals struggles were very hard to watch at times. I felt quite sorry for him and then other times felt like screaming 'WHY GO OUT SOUNDING LIKE THAT?!' at the TV.

One thing I can never criticise is Jon's work ethic. He genuinely does try hard with everything. Even with the vocal stuff. Surgery was last resort and you could tell he was trying everything else to get better.

Certain aspects of the documentary went on too long and as I said, I think they could have got some bits in that we don't know too much about in.

Thankfully I didn't see much, if any, Hampton Water.

That's kind of the thing...that's not true. Msot of the post 2000 albums Bounce forward lack clarity in the guitars, but there are guitar stacked and stacked and stacked on top of each other. HAND's live lineup is directly because of the Bounce tour. David triggered guitar samples all over ther place for the new songs. Hook me up's lead line is a sample, Undivided's backing guitar is a sample, The Distance's lead guitar part in the intro is a sample.

HAND, as a song, has three to four guitars I can count, one baritone guitar, one distorted and one overdriven etc etc. The issue the current production style has caused has more to do with needing so many guitars on stage so it doesn't sound weak.

I don't think Jon is good enough of a guitar player to handle the auxiliary role Bobby played. The main lick of Whole lot of Leaving is an acoustic with a capo on the second fret tuned open E. But I've always thought Bobby was always there to asisst on guitar and fill up the band vocally.

To think Jon was trying to edge Richie out as early as 2005 is a wild wild wild wild theory I don't think holds water.

That's correct. There are numerous guitars on Bounce and HAND, and beyond. These walls of guitars had been a trend in production world particularly at that time, consisting main part of the "wall of sound".

Paradoxically, stacking all those guitars can make them sound "smaller" than just one bus of guitar track that is masterfully recorded (such as on SWW, for example). So perhaps one can be forgiven for thinking that guitars are not that prominent. I personally think that too much stacking very much risks taking tone's essence.

Regarding Bobby I agree, there's no way it was conceived as early step to replace Richie, nor do I think there was concious effort for Jon to marginalize Richie. If not mistaken I even remember early on, Richie was praising Shanks and his contributions on HAND. Later, context happened and all that we already discussed before.

Watched it last night and I really enjoyed it. It was a fun and emotional ride, it gave more clarity between the Jon and Richie situation and it made me respect Jon’s work ethic even more. Gotta admit I teared up in many places, the band has made their peace with them maybe not touring anymore but I don’t think I did yet. It was heartbreaking to see Jon’s vulnerability, and how hard he’s trying to get to the stage. I do hope I can see him and the band again live here.

It was weird that we didn’t have Bobby there, considering he was a touring member for so long. I did enjoy that Everett was on it because personally I’ve been thinking “who’s this guy and why is he everywhere?” these past years and here you can see how he cares about the band, the members, and the respect he has for everything Bon Jovi has achieved.

Regarding the Jon and Richie situation, it does look like Shanks was trying to find his place into the band but it doesn’t change the fact that Richie didn’t show up to work. It just wasn’t the way to do it, no matter your problems, responsibilities and work ethic is important. The decision to leave could have been done differently, him apologizing means that he knows that.

I'm not saying that Jon was already thinking about getting rid of Richie in 2005 with Bobby's entry, I'm just saying that it was a bad decision because it made Richie lose his focus, his edge. Not only in shows, but also in the studio. Over time this was like seeing a caged eagle. I think that started the seed of the problem.

I was remembering a fact:

2013's What About Now album bonus track song: "Every road leads home to you"

There was a reason why Jon allow to add the song as a bonus track on the album.

And we don't know it. And we will never will, for sure.

By the way, is not only the guitars on WAN.

You can clearly listen on What's Left Of Me that backing vocals isn't Richie. It's David, just like many songs on Burning Bridges. It always caught my attention.

Now I understand.
