This is my second post regarding Labor of Love. Gotta say that I really really like the song, I'm just listening to it right now and i must say that it fits perfectly with the cold, dark and rainy weather from outside.

Same for me. I've been listening to both ATTTS and FPS since the day they got released every day for more than a year now and I still like both of them a lot. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Labor Of Love. I'm a bit tired of it already. Not bad but not as good as those.

Speaking of I Could Make a Livin Out Of Lovin You - somebody mentioned that one in relation to the 24/7 line in Labor of Love -, I'm thinking that one could be a cool live song, even now.. (hadn't listened to it in five years at least)

I listened to Neurotica straight after, and that would have been killer live, done around that time.

Little off-topic here

This isn't a ballad. It's not a boy/girl love song. It's all metaphors.

I think it's about the song writing process. I think the "woman" he's speaking to is whatever new song he's writing. It's about his personal connection with it. It's work in the sense that writing and creating music is his job and how he earns a living, but to him it's a labor of love, so it's not really "work."

The "fools who count treasure in silver and gold" are the record company execs who are only interested in the money-making #1 hits.

That's my guess.

I really like that interpretation. There's only a few lines that don't jive with it.

That is a very cool interpretation.

I remember weeks ago someone here posted a translated article or interview (think it was in german) where they explained the song was written for Dorothea.

Then the line about the "fools who count treasure in silver and gold" could be a reference to the Soul Kitchens (which was Dorothea's idea to begin with) or it could be about how all the money they have is not their treasure, their marriage is, and money couldnt buy that...

I am by no means trying to bash or change your interpretation, I thought it was VERY cool, just wanted to share more info about the song.

=)
