Bells Of Freedom = This Ain't A Love Song
Just try singing TAALS chorus with Bells of Freedom.

Anyway: [Krycek mode on]It might be possible to sing it on the same melodies but they're very different songs and in no means a rip off of themselves. This Ain't A Love Song is a great quality song about the departure of your love and Bells Of Freedom is a top notch song about freedom. Very different! And imagine this: You've written top quality songs for more then 20 years and write another quality song on your latest album that's the best in years. Sure, it's possible that it sounds like some of your previous stuff, but does it matter? It's very, very great music, and that's what counts for me![Krycek mode off] Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
I think I mentioned in an earlier thread that the first time I played the new album all the way through at home, my husband started singing TAALS to Bells of Freedom immediately. The similarities are quite obvious, especially in the chorus. My husband's comment was that at least they were stealing from themselves rather than from someone else :)

Maybe that's why I never got into it - I never liked TAALS either. Plus both have cheeeeesy lyrics.

All I know is I don't like it. It's a floater...it reeks...flush it.

I don't know, unlike others, I think some of the lyrics from TD ARE cheesy, and TAALS definitely is among those. Granted, the lyrics are better written than BOF's, but even though they're less embarassing, they're still cheesy. What especially makes them seem cheesy is the vocal style of the song. Even for a ballad, it seems kinda... I don't know. Over-emphasized probably.
If I Was Your Mother also has cheesy lyrics, so does In These Arms, so does I'll Be There For You, but they don't come over that cheesy, thanks to the melody. And while I'm at butchering everyone's favourites... Quote:

I noticed this too, but I know one thing:
- TAALS rules (probably my 4th favorite Bon Jovi ballad after the holy trinity of Never Say Goodbye, I'll Be There For You and Bed Of Roses) - BOF sucks ass (one of the weakest songs in HAND) There should be a rule that prohibits rock bands from using bells as an intro to their songs, unless you're AC/DC. |
