Default World Tours

Always wondered how do they pick venues/cities in order to promote an album through a world tour? Anyone got a clue on this one?

I'm pretty sure they have a team that seek out the best venues based on location, size, proximity to airports and cost to hire. Then they negotiate a price. I'm sure the promoter has a say also.

I think it also has to do with album sells, if an album makes it to No. 1 to a specific country it's automatically qualified for a show. I think something like this happened in Spain back in 2013 as there were no plans for a show due to financial issues but since BWC hit #1 a free show was announced in Vicente Calderon in Madrid by Dr Music.

I was there and I remember they played for free only charging 40€ for the ticket. They announced it like "precio amigo" (friend price) but I think it was because many people complained about the band not playing here because Jon said Spain was going through economic problems at the time or something like that. I don't know if it had something to do with the sales of the album.
