Looks like the 2 week pay wasn't that high...

Is David the new non-official MOB member? He's been playing with them quite a lot lately!

Maybe that's because the alternative is giving MattO $40,000!

IndieGoGo: What makes this band different from all the others is that their local fan base includes Bruce Springsteen, David Bryan and John Popper (all of whom have volunteered to perform on the band’s forthcoming album to be released later this year). When three of your biggest supporters have sold a collective 230 million units, you know you’re doing something right.
But when those supporters aren't interested in teaming up to invest a "mere" $40,000 of the money they earned from those 230 million units, something's wrong.

Yeah but the music business is an investment. No one is going to put up $40k regardless of how much money they have out of the goodness of their heart no matter how talented the guy is.

You shouldn't invest in ANYTHING purely out of the goodness of your heart, only out of what appears to be a better than even chance that you'll turn a large enough profit within the right amount of time. But you're right -- as even the mighty Bon Jovi have learned, the business of the music business is business.

With no organized record label support, MattO has only online streaming for income-generating levels of airplay. He's been around since 1994, and he's spent the bulk of that time opening for the likes of Foreigner, Kansas, Buddy Guy, Mountain, Blues Traveler, Robin Trower, Blue Oyster Cult, Johnny Winter, and Dickie Betts. But even with the surge in publicity and gigs stemming from the Bon Jovi Asian mini-tour, he has a grand total of 314 followers on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube combined. And according to his bio, it's actually been closer to ten years since he last released an original studio album.

Which brings us to the bottom line: IS Matt O'Ree currently worth $40,000? Given his age, musical subgenre, probability of being in serious debt (I found only one other IndieGoGo band asking for more money), and lack of other A-list connections, no -- not even in crowdfunding money. Not unless his plans for the album include a unique breakthrough edge to his sound that can get him noticed by a record label and played on both mainstream and hard rock radio.

Absolutely agreed. I think with his entrance into the Bon Jovi world, where the average fan is...a-hem...more inclined to buy anything the band is involved with, he's playing his cards smartly.

Some artists can afford making an album without crowdfunding but they do it "to ensure the customer's loyalty" as they say in business. Contributors/fans feel privileged to experience the making-of a record, some artists invite them into the studio to add some back-up vocals, they include their photo on the inner sleeve or booklet, they offer them a concert for free with a laminated backstage pass, etc.

Idk what Matt O.'reasons are but he released self-produced albums in the past so maybe this crowdfunding is not just for the money, he may be trying to check his new popularity after playing a dozen shows with BJ.
