Default Bon Jovi with Phil X

Hi everyone,

I've been a massive Jovi fan since I was a kid and I first heard livin on a prayer when I was like 9 or something. I've followed them ever since. I've always been excited for new albums and tours, but when What about Now was coming out it didn't feel right to me, for the first time I wasn't interested, I don't know why, maybe we'd had too much Bon Jovi without any real breaks, I decided I wasn't going to see them on tour this time, and I wasn't excited for the album.
I bought the album and some stuff was ok but none of it got me going. Then Richie left. It all felt so wrong. I didn't watch much of the live stuff and wasn't that interested in following the tour.
But the other day a video popped up on YouTube, I'm not sure if it's from the last gig of the tour or what but I must say I was impressed, Jon vocally pulls it out of the bag and the band sound exciting for the first time in years. I don't know if it's coz it was the last gig or what, or if Phil X has ignited something, or if he's showing how sloppy Richie has got in recent years but, if this is an example of things to come then I say bring it on. What do you guys think?

This these days is phenomenal

Sorry I have to disillusion you somewhat, but those are from the official web stream from MetLife Stadium from July 2013, in which they shamelessly auto tuned/pitch corrected Jon's vocals. Look for audience recordings from the same gig,and you'll see what I mean...

That's not to say that the band/Jon weren't still good in the summer of 2013, but it then rapidly went downhill towards the end of the year...

This.

Same goes for the Hyde Park footage.

I think the Cleveland 2013 stream is probably the last pro-shot performance where Jon sounded decent. It was worse than 2011, at least it sounded like the same guy. Even if the heavily doctored Metlife videos, you can hear Jon's voice changing at parts even if the notes are in key.

Having listened to some of the intimate shows recently jon sounds so much better when hes not over exerting and whining on ballads he can't sing anymore. Unfortunately that limits him to slow songs ie that attempt at welcome to wherever you are.

With Richie already gone, they should have cut their losses when Tico got sick and rescheduled for the following spring. But nooooo, Jon had a football team to finance...

A super naive way to rationalize not cancelling the shows. A lot of people had plans, plane tickets, hotel rooms, band staff, crew. Any cancelling should have done BEFORE tickets were on sale.

Phil X just doesn't cut it for me. He has enthusiasm but he lacks what it takes to take over Richie's spot. Jon is a shadow of his former self and Tico is a para-diddle away from the retirement home. In ideal world the band would call it quits but that won't happen.

It might be fun seeing just how big of a cluster f*ck the next tour will be though..

Hi.

I was at both shows and both of them were very good. What pissed me off was that they were carbon copy of each other. There was no escuse for that, because they had a lot of songs to pull off the bag. Days before they played Undivided, This Ain't a Love Song, Living in Sin, I'm with you, Blood on Blood, I'll be There for You and some others in Europe.

About the vocals: Jon sounded somewhat decent during the show, however, it really hurts how much they autotuned the webstream.

I'm glad I got to see them a lot during The Circle Tour. Even though I don't love the album, the tour was very good, specially Europe. You could tell from the beggining of the tour that very nice moments were about to come: The acoustic version of Something For The Pain, Richie doing Homebound Train, songs from the first two albuns … Now take the WAN tour: the first setlists of the tour were a complete snoozfest and it got worse when Richie left.
