Did he ask to be interviewed again, or was he asked?
I just presumed it was a follow up interview a year later just to see if anything had changed or needed adding, or expanding on?
I feel like the Jon/Richie relationship is still a constant push and pull situation. It's voliltile like all the great duos - Jagger/Richards, Plant/Page, Tyler/Perry, Lennon/McCartney, etc etc.

That's a month off, 2 months of work, then 3 more months off. Jon did most the work for Lost Highway in regards to promo, mixing and producing.
There is a pic of Richie with Dan Huff from early December 2006, after yeah idk how much time he spent in the recording studio, maybe you’re right that he had little to do with the recordings after December till about March, except the new songs written probably in early 2007, so theorically Richie spent some time in studio also for those songs. (or Shanks or other guys did Richie’s guitars parts in the new songs also there )

Yes, Chopra mentioned in an interview that when Richie realised they are being honest he wanted to say some more things and asked for a second interview...

Sth must have happened in the meantime because Richie is abit more aggressive in the second clip a year later even if he apolgises

Yet almost nothing from that alleged second interview bar his apology is shown in the documentary.

Lots of footage from every interview that got cut, surely. Although, it would make sense for Chopra to keep the most controversial points in, so I doubt anything too heavy was cut.

Regarding Richie's schedule. Why are we arbiters of how exhausted he is, how impacted by his life weighing on his schedule he is? At the end of the day, if he says he is spent he is spent. My personal thing is he just didn't want an album cycle at that stage, for a multitude of reasons.

In the documentary, I was thinking that neither of them is necessarily lying, but they are only saying their own truth. Richie alludes to this. There is not much effort to see it from the other's side, apart from a few lines from Jon about blaming himself and Richie's eventual apology.

I have never had any doubt that Richie will be back if Jon is able to continue. Before it was just because at some point it will make business sense. Following the doc I am more convinced there can be a middle ground in their relationship and not just business. I was not as negative about Richie's second interview as others seem to be.

Shanks is interesting because the documentary has no problem subtly showing him as a sort of villain of the piece. He doesn't help himself by saying about Richie being their friend and almost sounding like the word "friend" is sarcastic. I wonder what Jon thinks after seeing the doc and Shanks' representation in it.

Not only was Richie replaced in the studio, Jon was also responsible for replacing him on tour. There was already a plan to get rid of Richie, Jon just tightened the rope a little more so it would happen sooner.

Jon lost his voice due to the great effort and all the stress he had to endure on the 2013 tour. There were 107 shows in less than 1 year, with the big problem of Richie, together with all the logistics of the big stage of the Buick and his entire staff of day laborers on payroll, and all to chase the money to buy his NFL team.

It was worth it? absolutely not. The guy has no voice, and much of his brotherhood is shattered. He couldn't buy the team either.

Richie is not a martyr in this story, he is also to blame, but unlike Jon, he was a guy with real problems and more serious than fulfilling a contract.

Exactly this.

Ultimately, what Richie did wrong is way that he did his exit, not exit itself. I can understand whatever reasons he gives or doesn't give. We are too critical of them thinking they owe us something, it's his life and his decision. Now finally he apologized for the way it happened. So, the blame game for me is closed with that.

For myself, I'm still not sure was his exit rash decision or rational long-brewing decision (not just the way it happened). Obviously he was unhappy though. He says he's not sorry for it, but with hindsight, I'm not sure. But probably doesn't matter, it's again personal.

For what it's worth, it's different context for everybody now. Both Richie and Jon are humbled with last decade of time, for different reasons. Hopefully reunion is due.

When Jon does the guitar gesture in The Fighter, and smirks like if this wasn't so important... the guy is full of shit.
